FFA were appointed to design a completely new retail experience at one of the UK’s largest independent pen retailers on the High Street in Shrewsbury. Working closely with a specialist shopfitter we designed a series of bespoke storage and display interventions throughout the shop.

Our brief was to produce a concept design for the interior remodel and re-fresh of the existing retail space to improve the accessibility (steps and level changes throughout restricted access for all), help define customer flow (so during busy periods both the sales desk and pen testing area could function independently), provide space for new range of displays, and introduce new finishes and lighting through contemporary but sympathetic interventions, and enhancing any historic character features.

We felt that the small independent specialist pen shop ‘Write Here’ is pretty special and unique shop and like Shrewsbury it is ‘original’, and this is exactly what we wanted to reflect in the fit out - this originality.

The new retail space is clean and contemporary providing transparency and visibility throughout, we were able to integrate new ramps giving access throughout with bespoke display units. Improving the customer experience and displaying the varied range of products on offer to maximum effect the new layout dramatically improves the flows around shop… removes pinch points… sharp corners to displays, as-well as creating key sales zones; wrap & cards to front – pens to rear and creates a new space to enhance the experience of viewing, trying & purchasing pens.

Special pen displays shipped in from Germany were key items that had to be weaved into the new wall displays, along with flexible and product specific openings for art and writing instruments. A huge range of cards and gifts also had to be displayed.
